What is Rush?

Rush stirs the fraternity into action at the beginning of each semester. When we aren't at our scheduled events (see Rush Schedule for details), we are around campus to answer questions, and at the chapter house playing wiffle ball, basketball, pool, ping pong, foosball, Frisbee, laser tag, bean bags and having a deck jam throughout the day. Also at night we bust out our 100' slip and cool off after from the warm August nights. Best of all, we invite everybody to join us, and all that we ask is that you are in the mood to have a good time! Rush is our fraternity's opportunity to meet new students, and their opportunity to meet us. Students who attend various rush events are those that are interested in getting to know the brothers of Alpha Epsilon Pi. It is a student's chance to decide if they enjoy spending time with the brotherhood and if they would accept a bid, a formal offer to begin learning about and becoming a member in the fraternity, from us. Likewise, the brothers attend rush to meet people who are interested in joining the fraternity and to find out who they would like to offer bids to. The rush concludes with Alpha Epsilon Pi's offers of bids to various students, the first step on the road to brotherhood.

Additionally, some students opt for a taste of fraternity life right away. On IIT's housing request forms, students can request to move into the chapter house for the beginning of the semester. Additionally, anytime during orientation week you can move in as well, and both options are at no obligations. This gives you a chance to see how it is first hand and give you the best opportunity to see if its something for you. By opting for this you are not committed to anything. Any time during rush week, if you feel its not what you had wanted, you are free to move to another house or into the residence halls. If this is something you are interested in feel free to contact us and we can help you through the entire process.

Who Attends?

The easy answer: Anybody who loves to have fun. The more complete answer: There are two types of people that attend our rush events. Everyone is invited to join us in our festivities, and many people come just to have fun. There is also the group of people interested in learning about life with Alpha Epsilon Pi; those people make an extra effort to attend rush events and to spend time talking with brothers. Oftentimes a person will not initially have the intention of rushing a fraternity but will enjoy the events so much that their interest begins to grow. So there is no need to attend a rush event with the intention of eventually receiving a bid, but be forewarned: our brotherhood is temptingly fun.

Why Alpha Epsilon Pi?

The Lambda Chapter of Alpha Epsilon Pi was founded at Illinois Institute of Technology in 1948, and it continues to be active on the IIT campus. Life at Alpha Epsilon Pi opens you up to a wide variety of experiences and exemplifies our dedication to the founding principles of Alpha Epsilon Pi, courage, faith, and truth.

Our fraternity programming keeps us busy throughout the year. Social events, dinners, and get-togethers give us the chance to relax and have a great time. Greek council sponsored sports events help us expel extra energy throughout the year. Last year we won the Football Championship third time out of the past four years. Additionally, we are active in community service in and around the campus. Last year, brothers participated in a beach cleanup, worked with Habitat for Humanity, raised a $1,000 for Magen David Adom an International Red Cross, bell rang for The Salvation Army, hosted a clothing drive, collected money for a Christmas gift program for low-income families, and managed to win both Greek Council fundraising competitions.

However, we still realize that we are at IIT for one reason, to graduate, so we make sure we have enough time to keep up our grades. In addition, we have a study room with textbooks from classes, free access to house computers, printers, and a copier. We even have a scholarship program that helps brothers succeed and improve their grades, with the most valuable resource, the ability to be able to easily find someone that has already had the class before and can help you find out those tough homework problems.

Our chapter has active alumni support, with a newly formed alumni board. We keep in contact with our alumni and also with the national organization. Networking is important to all brothers as we recognize the potential benefits of brotherhood, post-graduation. Many brothers can call up a few alumni and easily get leads for job opportunities, if not interviews. Alpha Epsilon Pi alumni all over the country provide a solid foundation in the uncertain "job search" times around and after graduation.

Alpha Epsilon Pi looks for people who have something to offer the fraternity. We encourage our brothers and our new initiates to be active on campus as well, and we have brothers involved in a wide array of activities including athletics, Greek Council, professional societies (American Society of Civil Engineers, Society of Automotive Engineers, etc) and other student organizations.

Rushing Alpha Epsilon Pi only involves meeting the brothers. We're a tight group, but if you like to feel like you can just be yourself and feel right at home, we might be the place for you. We'd love to get a chance to know you, so stop by the house sometime this fall!!
