Module 4: Creating, designing and applying a Master Page

This module teaches you how to create, design, and apply a Master Page.

Master Page

A Master Page is like a template. It has a standard layout that you can apply to any or all of the pages in your Online Manual. You may want to create a Master Page if you want any or all of the pages in your Online Manual to look the same or similar.

To create a Master Page, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Project Manager pod on the upper left hand corner of the screen.
  2. Click the Project set-up panel (second panel at the bottom of the Project Manager pod.
  3. The Project set-up panel appears.
  4. Click the Create a new Master Page icon (last icon to the left at the top of the panel).
  5. A New Master Page box appears.
  6. Type in Master Page 1 as the name of your Master Page.
  7. Go to the Appearance tab to apply your style sheet to your Master Page.
  8. Click on First Style Sheet, then OK.
  9. Your Master Page 1 template appears to the right of the Project set-up panel. A default layout of a Master Page only contains a body placeholder. This is why you do not see a section for the header that you styled in your style sheet (with the white text on a black background). You need to follow additional steps to add your header with the style applied.
