What are Meridians?
The meridians are channels (like rivers nourishing our body’s network). These are the channels in which Qi flows to nourish and energize the human body. These channels are too subtle to find them in our body on the operating table. Collectively these channels form the matrix through which our physical body functions. The meridians work as a network of communication in the physical body.
How many meridians are in our physical body?
There are twelve main meridians in the human body. Each of the meridians/element influences the organ system. The meridians are made of Yin and Yang Pairs. Such as:
Metal Element= combination of Lung (Arm-Yin) and Intestine (Arm-Yang)
Earth Element=combination of Spleen (Leg-Yin) and Stomach (Leg-Yang)
Fire Element=combination of Heart (Arm-Yin) and Small Intestine (Arm-Yang)
Water Element= Kidney (Leg-Yin) and Bladder (Leg-Yang)
Fire Element (Again) = Pericardium (Arm-Yin) and Triple-Warmer (Arm-Yang)
Wood Element= Liver (Leg-Yin) and Gallbladder (Leg-Yang)
So, you may want to know what is Yin and Yang. Check below for the meaning.
Arm Yin Meridians: this meridians flow from the torso to the fingers along the inner edge of the arms.
Arm-Yang Meridians: this meridians flow finger to the head along the outer edge of the arms.
Leg-Yin Meridians: this meridians flow from the toes to the torso along the inner edge of the legs.
Leg-Yan Meridians: this meridians flow from the torso to the toes along outer edge or the legs.
The Qi that flow on these meridians remain strong twenty-four hour excepting the two-hour interval. The Qi travels into the meridians’ through a cyclic process that can be referred with the “Meridian Clock”. When the flow is well-balanced and harmonious, we feel good both physically and mentally. When the flow is irregular, we feel unwell both physically and mentally. If you want to maintain well-balanced Qi flow through the meridian system, you should practice Qigong and acupuncture.
Beside the twelve main meridians, there are eight extraordinary meridians. These are: Du, the Ren, the Dai, the Chong, the Yin Chiao, the Yang Chiao, the Yin Wei, and the Yang Wei Meridians. These eight extraordinary meridians form in the uterus. They give a deeper level of structure for energy. They also play an important role in practicing the Inner Alchemy.
