Events
Here you can find information on the events and programming for TechCon. Updates and descriptions will be added quickly so check back soon. As we get closer to TechCon, specific event times and locations will be posted. If you have any questions or suggestions, please Email them to us or post them in our Forum.
All-Day Anime Showings
The Japanese Film and Animation Society will screen anime through-out TechCon in designated movie rooms. The movies and shows will be projected onto movie-size screens. We expect to have 2-3 rooms reserved, for a total of over 48-hours of anime! Please check back in the future for information on what Anime will be shown during TechCon.
All-Day Video Games
Gaming centers will be set up through-out the event. Games will include Halo 2, 2-Player Dance Dance Revolution, and possible network games such as Counterstrick. We are open to suggestions for games you would like to see at TechCon. Please click here to post ideas on our forum video-gaming section.
Blast to the Past: Nintendo
Our all-day video gaming centers will also include old classics including Nintendo and Super Nintendo games. Indulge your nostalgia with some of your favorite old games such as Super Mario Brothers and PacMan, !
Video Game Tournaments
Test your skills in Halo and Dance Dance Revolution tournaments at TechCon. Find out if you're really the best, and maybe even win a prize or two!
Role-Playing Games
The GameMasters Guild will host several games during TechCon. Expect games using the D20 system in either modern or fantasy settings as well as a possible Japanese Sengoku-era themed story. More information on GMs and systems will be provided in the future.
Board Games
The GameMasters Guild and the Model United Nations will also have many traditional board games available at TechCon, including Go, Axis and Allies, Risk, and Diplomacy! Teachers for the games will be provided: learn the strategy and history behind Go, or find out why the members of the Model United Nations give their full approval to the politics in Diplomacy at TechCon.
Drawing Lessons
The talented Seravi will showcase his art and provide drawing lessons free of charge during TechCon. Be prepared for his unique and energetic style of teaching! Visit his site for samples of his work: http://www.seravi.org/.
Face Painting
We will also have face painting at TechCon for those of you who like to wear your art! Come out to get your face painted and maybe even go to the ISO/GSA Masquerade Ball with an extra mask!
Lego Mindstorm Competition
The IIT First Robotics Club and American Society of Mechanical Engineers will host the following open events with Lego Mindstorm Robots. Event details and rules will be given on-site.
Small Games - Robots will be challenged in a variety of tasks, ranging from long and short jump, to the manipulation of objects.
Obstacle Course - Robots will be required to navigate different terrains of varying difficulty. Relay races may be organized to navigate consecutive obstacle courses.
Best Trick - Participants are free to design innovative robots that perform amusing, impressive and entertaining feats.
The Colonel
The IIT First Robotics Club will showcase its robot, the Colonel. What does it look like? What does it do? How did we build it? Find out at TechCon! Tours of the workshop may also be available.
Robot Wars
No real robots here! Just one very, very cool program! The IIT chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery will host a series of competitions centered on IBM Alphaworks Robocode. Design your robot on the computer and send it into battle! "Build the best. Destroy the rest."
Medieval Society Demonstration
The Medieval Society of IIT will demonstrate their armor and skills at TechCon, engaging in a mock fight in Morton Park. Expect the steel to clash when they draw their weapons and ready their shields!
Glider Competition
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics will host a Glider building competition with the support of the MMAE faculty. Details for this competition will be introduced on the first day of the event.
Getting Away with Murder
IIT's own play-acting group, 33rd Street Productions will put on the play Getting Away with Murder by Stephen Sondheim and George Furth. Combining thrilling twists with a great deal of humor and melodrama, Getting Away with Murder centers on a murder conspiracy involving a psychiatrist and his seven patients. Dodgeball Tournament
Pick your team. Take aim. Throw. Then get ready to jump, dodge and weave your way through a barrage of balls in our dodgeball tournament! Winner is the last team standing!
Table Tennis Tournament
The Illinois Table Tennis Club will host a tournament for anyone interested in trying their hand at this great game. Details on competition rules and format will be posted soon.
Live Bands
We will have a selection of local bands who will play at TechCon for you to listen and dance to the music. Stay tuned for more on which bands we will have at the event and when!

The Lounge
One or two rooms will be set aside at TechCon for you to take a break from all the excitement. The lights will be dimmed and our own radio station, WIIT will spin a few tunes for you to relax to - or dance to, as might be the case! In addition, a cash bar with alcohol and drinks will be present in the Lounge in the evening.
Dance Lessons
Dance lessons will be a part of TechCon for anyone interested. Learn to move with the rhythm or just stop by to improve your steps. Either way, stop by the Lounge afterwards for a bit of music, dancing, and relaxation. And afterward, practice your new skills on the...
ISO-GSA Boat Cruise/Masquerade Ball
The International Student Organization and Graduate Student Association has organized a boat cruise and Masquerade Ball for Friday night of TechCon. Sign up early. Stay up late. Have fun!

Lawn Bowling
Strike Force, the one and only bowling society at IIT, will host a Lawn Bowling tournament in Morton Park. Think you're a master at the lanes? Try your hand out on the grass!
The Bridge
The American Society of Civil Engineers will give a preview of its entry for the upcoming Great Lakes Steel Bridge Competition. They may even give an inside look at how the structure is built and demonstrate their efficiency at constructing the bridge.
Juggling
Expect to see several jugglers at TechCon! Just stop by to watch if you want or you can ask to give it a try. They'll be happy to help you!
IIT Day of Service
Organized by the Office of Student Activities, the Day of Service will take place during TechCon this year. A table will be set up where interested people can help design and make birthday cards for senior citizens.
