Section III. D. Description of the Pre-IB Program

 

During grades 9 and 10, students who have been selected for participation in the Pre-IB Program will be prepared for the courses at the Standard and Higher Levels in the six subjects which will comprise their IB Diploma.

 

Grade 9

* English Literature

* French I (Students with no previous study of French will be required to attend summer school for French prior to grade 9)

* World History/World Studies

* Biology

* Algebra II/Geometry (Students who have not completed the equivalent of high school Algebra I will be required to attend summer school in Algebra prior to grade 9)

* Introduction to Computer Science (this class prepares students for ITGS as well as tools for word processing and research in all subjects)

 

Grade 10

* American Literature

* French II

* U.S. History

* Chemistry

* Trigonometry and Precalculus

 

The following are course outlines of the Pre-IB subjects:

Feeder schools are aware of the requirements in Algebra I and French. Many schools are already doing Algebra in the eighth grade and through a grant several feeder schools will be adopting a program from the sixth grade in which students prepare for IB. In 1998-1999, Morgan Park High School will also offer an early morning Algebra class for 8th graders in attendance area schools who intend to enroll in the IB Program.
