GIS On-Campus:  rev 2007oct12

There are various GIS application resources available to students and faculty.

Available through the OTS Labs (AM & E1)  is:
Autodesk's Map3d which is a companion to their AutoCad.
Also available are several free-ware programs that are increasingly powerful.
These include Accuglobe 2007 (available at www.ddti.net) and Quantum GIS (QGIS)

There is also a limited set of ESRI's ArcGis available.

Accuglobe is highly recommended for its powerful capabilities in creating and working with "shape" type files, the industry standard.
It can do many of the important functions that Arcview3.x was able to perform, such as editing and manipulation.

There is of course, free viewers like Google Earth and ESRI's ArcExplorer.

Current projects:

Kansas Agricultural Colonies (2004_2006)
      a project in geographical fidelity

Video survey of the I&M Canal.
Includes an ancillary task collecting long/lat's for the installed mile markers.
