Locating Black Box Atoms

The path of the ray is governed by the following rules.  Use these rules and the supplied data, to find the location(s) of the atom(s) in each box.

  1. Rays that strike an atom directly are absorbed.  (22abs) (See example above or here.)

  2. Rays that come within one square of an atom in the diagonal direction (so that they would pass next to an atom if they continue) are deflected by 900.  (21 to 4) (7 to 9) (See example above or here.)

  3. Rays aimed between two atoms one square apart are reflected.  (2 to 2) (See example above or here.)

  4. Rays that enter on either side of an atom on the edge of the box are reflected. (28 to 28) (See example above or here.)

  5. Rays otherwise travel in straight lines.
